There are these two little birds outside my office that chill on the balcony railing pretty much all day. I think its a boy and a girl finch, and they have been here since last Thursday. I assume they have a nest in one of the trees downstairs, because whenever a human arrives they both fly down to it. Either that or they're just starting the dating process. I'm not one with nature in regards to birds (cuz they kinda weird me out) but it's been nice having office buddies.
They do this weird little dance periodically throughout the day - they rest their feet on the window mullion, then while facing the window (and me)they do a combination jumping/flying move up and down from a few inches up to about a foot up the window, then back down again. The whole time they are not only singing, but their beaks bonk the window repeatedly because they are so close to it. Chirp-chirp BONK. Chirp-chirp BONK. After a long while of doing this they just go chill on the balcony rail again or into the tree for a break. The sounds they make during this performance are the equivalent to someone whistling while tapping their pen on their desk...repeatedly...for 30-40 minutes...6 times a day. Irritating, yes, but they are my friends now. I named 'em. Balki and Cha Cha, of course.
