This weekend while taking Jessie school shopping in some random Pacific Sunwear-esque shop I started groovin right in the store much to the amazement of the Jessa. I couldn't help it - Me, Myself, and I from De La Soul started to play and I was swept back to my 8th grade year (more proof that I'm old: talk about things coming back around again - we were buying her plaid bermuda shorts, which I also wore in 8th grade). Had to download it today because although I do have the record, its on cassette! Dude, that was almost 20 years ago. Definitely going to take that song on the lake this weekend. That and The Dead Milkmen's Punk Rock Girl from the same era.

Perception vs. Attitude
My new moto is "Wish I Were Here". As in the old travel postcard cliche "Wish You Were Here". This is my reminder to BE where you're at, IN the moment, and love IT & YOURSELF. I'm SO SICK of people complaining about lives... their circumstances, finances, weight, possessions, beauty and lack thereof, etc etc. I frickin love my life. Of course I can find things to complain about, but then I just quit looking for them. Amazing how that works. Quit looking for things to complain about!
I'm not saying this because I'm at a point in my life where I've attained the things I wanted for myself. I remember feeling like this in our first house - all old, no grass, sitting outside drinkin a beer, not much money in the bank. I was still the same person then. Now I have a pool. Big deal. Things are more comfortable now, but I rocked then, and I rock now.
I'm not saying that you shouldn't always be motivated to better your self or your life. What I am saying is: have the sense of self that reminds you that you're THE BOMB. Who wouldn't want to be you? Next time you put on a bikini or boardshorts, feel good in them. Next time you have a scrap with family or a buddy, remind yourself how lucky you are to have that person to fight with. If you quit wasting time pining over what others have, it'll probably come true for you. If you're not cool with youself, how can anyone else be?
